The birthday girl and her slumber party buddies. This was the first slumber party for Rowan and her crowd, and as such, I was sure someone would get weepy and need a ride home in the middle of the night. HA! I was the weak link in the chain, the one who needed sleep. They were all super slumber party champs!
All around great person and henna artist Rebecca came and graciously decked the girls out in glittery tattoos. After there was dinner and cake, and then the giggle-marathon began. Those four second graders were up until 2am, performing a marvelously choreographed routine where three were contanstly in stiches, while the fourth monkeyed up a storm. The roles of the entertainer and the entertained were regularly batted about. Good thing the party fell in the middle of the Holiday Break, so there were many nights to catch up on sleep and many days to crank at mama in the inevitable manner of a sleep deprived 8 year old.
Celilo was pleased as punch to be the little sister at the slumber party. She and I went up and read the Swedish canon of children's books (the complete Peter and Lotta; Flicka, Ricka and Dick; and Snipp, Snapp and Snurr series) around 10pm, much to her chagrin-- the twitter-a-thon was quite compelling, but a little to hardcore for 5 year old blood.
Rowan's actual birthday was a quiet day at home, with many visits from friends and neighbors.
There was cookie decorating with Liam and Marede.
Then an indoor roller derby.
Finally Popa's Poppy Seed Cake (brought from DC by Ginnie and the man himself) with Kate, Bonnie, Tom and Ginny, as well as all the usual suspects (guess that'd be me and Lilo)!
